Graduate Automotive Technology
Education Center
Advanced Energy Storage Center
The GATE Fellowship program is only open to
individuals who are citizens of the United States. GATE
Fellowships are intended for students at or near the
beginning of their graduate studies in engineering. The
research focus of students that receive fellowships will
be in automotive engineering with a concentration in one
of the following advanced energy storage automotive
technology areas: (1) battery systems, (2) flywheel
research, (3) capacitor research, and (4) vehicle
systems integration/testing.
GATE Fellowships are awarded on the basis of
qualifications. The evaluation of applicants is based on
the demonstrated ability and special aptitude for
advanced automotive engineering, including academic
records, recommendations regarding each applicant's
qualifications, and Graduate Record Examinations (GRE)
scores.
Each applicant's qualifications will be reviewed by a
multi-disciplinary faculty panel. The primary faculty
members of the GATE Advanced Energy Stoarge Center will
review all applications and, when necessary, will
recruit additional faculty reviewers in the applicant's
field of study. At least one faculty member in the
applicant's chosen field of specialty will be part of
the review process. Based on their review of each
application, faculty members will establish merit
ratings for five categories: (1) educational background,
(2) undergraduate GPA, (3) GRE scores, (4) reference
reports, (5) related background and previous research
experience. The final selection of fellows is to be made
by the GATE Advanced Energy Stoarge Center Director, and
will be based on the merit order established by the
reviewers and on a match between research area needs and
applicant interest.
