Bus Research and Testing Facility (Test Track)
The Bus Research and Testing Facility was designed and built in 1989 on the site of PTI's Transportation Research Facilities
(test track) with funding provided by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). This facility is an extension of the Altoona Bus
Research and Testing Center, which oversees the testing of new model buses in accordance with test procedures approved by FTA. New
features built at the Bus Research and Testing Facility include a new lane on the inside edge of the pavement durability lane, a handling area,
and a durability course. These areas are used during the safety, acceleration, dynamic towing, structural durability, and exterior noise
portions of new model bus testing. All new model buses to be purchased with federal funds must be tested using these facilities
